Rosemary or "dew of the sea" is, after  lavender, the most important plant from the Labiatae family used in aromatherapy. It is a shrub that grows throughout Europe, but a favorable climate for optimum development is the Mediterranean coastline.

It is known since ancient times, used as a medicine, ritual component and spice. In Greece for example, poor people had no access to expensive incense and they use to burn rosemary sprigs on the altars of the gods. The Romans considered it sacred herb and rosemary traces were found even in tombs of Pharaohs.

Rosemary's antiseptic and antibacterial extraordinary effects come from antiquity; 2000 years ago it was used in cooking "industry" and food was kept fresh for days. In French hospitals, until the twentieth century, air was purified by burning fresh branches. Today is a good improvement on the flu, colds, cough and is considered along with other essential oils (peppermint, pine, eucalyptus, fir, etc.) an adjuvant for respiratory diseases and a perfect body toning.

Rosemary essential oil is obtained by distilling the leaves or flowering tops. 

Talking about therapeutic effects, essential oil of rosemary enhance blood flow to the brain, helping to increase capacity to improve concentration and memory. Also, through aromatherapy, rosemary oil is effective against migraines, headaches and general debility, weakness, nervousness, has good effects on insomnia, anguish, vertigo, depression, prolonged fatigue. 

On the affective, the smell of rosemary oil will help release internal energy, we feel stronger, invigorated. Help improve relationships with others and prevents nausea, dark thoughts or nightmares, balance both body and mind.

Pine Tree Essential Oil

Pine (Pine aetheroleum) is one of the most impressive of conifers, with an imposant stature and a great foliage. No wonder the Asian paintings occupy an important place, causing specific styles and special designs.

The essential oil is achieved by driving steam leaf pine (Pinus sylvestris, Fam. Pinaceae) and is a strong antiseptic, useful as help to colds, nasopharyngitis, sinusitis, bronchitis, tracheitis, acute cough dry or wet, pneumonia, asthma, tuberculosis etc.

Internal or external, pine tree essential oil has a lot of therapeutic effects from liver disease and urinary flow to activating area where is applied, adjuvant in rheumatic diseases, arthritis, periarthritis, gout, multiple sclerosis, poor peripheral circulation (cold hands and feet) twists and stretches the ligaments or allergies.

You must know that is a good stimulant of the nervous system, as indicated in fatigue and nervous exhaustion.

Pine essential oil is good for refreshment and daily stress, it scents rooms and changes the state of mind in a positive one.

As a contraindication, is mentioned that any form of children under 3 years must not swallow it or use without medical advice!

Through essential oils scented candles to aromatherapy

The term aromatherapy is a relatively new, appeared in France and is seen as part of alternative medicine - modern phytotherapy. 

Aromatherapy uses essential oils, also known as ethereal or volatile, stored in cells stored from different parts of plants (roots, leaves, flowers etc.), fruit or peel them, sometimes even seeds. Usually have a pleasant smell and can be obtained by steam distillation, squeezing or pressing, skin incisions, heating or using special solvents (alcohol, ether). 

Due to the chemical composition (phenols, alcohols, aldehydes, terpenes, etc.), herbs were found to have therapeutic properties like antiseptic, bacteriostatic, antibacterial, antitoxin, or antiparasitic worms and so many more. It turned out that even where bacteria develop strains resistant to antibiotics, essential oils  have acted with annihilation and "cleaned" our body. Thus is proved with basil, cinnamon, rosemary effect in treating conditions such as enterocolitis, enteritis, acute hepatitis, colitis, asthma or cardiac neurosis.
There are oils with stimulating properties or inhibition of digestive function, hormonal secretions, or with influence for the immune mechanisms of human body, nervous system, lymphatic, circulatory, etc.

About the therapeutic effects of each essential oil used  by EcoDecoLight we will assign a separate article that described the effects of vapor inhalation and flavourful combinations that enhances their effect by appending several aromas. 

Essential oils are highly concentrated substances, whose use requires careful dilution or dosage. More attention should be given to the use on skin, because you will need a preliminary documentation and possibly a specialist advice; overdose can cause burns or irritation so unpleasant, and sometimes can occur even a hormonal imbalance. For these reasons, EcoDecoLight comes with a dose well-documented and less powerful, just because our candles can be burn safely near pregnant women and children, knowing that they are more sensitive to chemical changes in air space. This is the main reason we chose Eco candles! 

Because we entered the season of colds and respiratory diseases, first line is the one proposed EcoDecoLight  scented candles that addresses the volatile oil composition with therapeutic action in the respiratory system, so as to provide ease of breathing, room air disinfection, have soothing and expectorant properties. These are essential oils of Pine, Eucalyptus, Fir, Mint, Rosemary and Lavender. It's a proven fact that inhaled essential oils go into the circulatory system (blood) faster than by oral administration.
In most cases, essential oils have no side effects, as long as one dose is not excessive. Even so, a slight headache or slight nausea are more gentle and are preferred than drug toxicity, especially antibiotic.

Beeswax

Beeswax is one of the substances known and spoken about since ancient times, used by Egyptians and Romans in medicines, conservation, writing, cosmetic and even food-preparing. But there are few that know that this is, in fact, a working bee's secretion that used in the beehive, can change its color because of the impurities or pollen. At the origin, beeswax is white. While time goes by, it can change its color going through dark yellow, red, greenish, brown or black tones. But this has to do also with the pollen that comes from the surrounding areas...

Talking about smell, beeswax is slightly sweet, with a pleasant aroma, is opaque and only with synthetic treatment it can become translucent; this lowers its value as a natural product and adds a non-natural compound in the chemical composition.

There are a lot of products based on beeswax, especially cosmetics for hair and skin, helps the cell regeneration and health, feed and protect, help in specific skin and hair symptoms.

In the process of candle production, beeswax is essential in obtaining a high quality product. Beeswax processing depends on each and every product. It melts at approx. 80 degrees Celsius, but it's soft and flexible at lower temperatures also. EcoDecoLight has several formulas, based on these two materials mixed in different proportions, that with other natural elements, will product a natural ecologic candle, with clean burn and beautiful light.

Even the market seems to be very well populated, you must read all the labels very carefully; you may be surprised! Not only that the chemical formula is nonexistent for almost all candles (you can be sure that you'll find only chemicals!), but the most used compound is essential oil as a real novelty. Not only that this is the only natural element (all candles are made of paraffin), but you'll find that the scent fades and even dissipates (essential oils are volatile) and the remaining smell very bad and burning the candle you'll find toxic waste in your breathable air!

With several weeks testing EcoDecoLight recipes, we now have a safe and natural formula based on the two kinds of wax (palm wax and beeswax) that allows a good dispersion of the essential oils and the best scent persistence in time. Also, it is a normal fact that after many weeks, in hot summer periods, the scent might fade a little. But it's only the volatile oil, you will still be able to smell the pure beeswax along with an elegant aroma, discreet, given by the palm wax, in contrast with the pungent odor of the paraffin candles.

The wick - a little engine that works with wax

As I said in another post, now it is the time to talk about the wick, a little 'engine' that works with another kind of fuel: wax. The wick works on capillarity principle, being very important for a constant flame, without smoke and who gives proper light and also for best burn the wax recipe should be very well handled.

There are a lot of wicks, from models to composition, colors and sizes, so that for every candle producer is very important to find the best wick. Speaking about models, there can be used thin wicks for candles up to 2,5 cm diameter, flat knitted wick whose dimensions vary because of the number of fiber used in its fabrication, metallic-hearted wicks, squared wicks etc.

EcoDecoLight produces candles with a pure cotton wick, treated in fabrication and in the candle making process, by covering with wax and burn preparation, so that it won't burn with toxic compounds in the breathable air.

There must be also an optimal proportion referring to the wick thickness and candle dimensions, so that the burning process is efficient. Increasing the candle's diameter goes to more thickness of the wick. In case of candles that measure over 15 cm in diameter, there must be chosen more wicks, disposed in more than one burning point.

Regarding the quantity of wax used for EcoDecoLight candles, we will set 1, 2 or 3 wicks, with tested special dimensions, in order to get a clean burn. But we also advice that now and then, after some hours of letting the candle burn, blow it, let it cool down and make wick adjustments if it's the case (shorten it). If we had to use self-consumable wicks, it meant to use synthetic substances for its treatment, and our purpose is to produce a completely natural product.

The wick we use is straight an fixed on the support using just wax, it doesn't get right to the end, because we are testing now an ensured self-blow out when the candle gets to the end. This is about candles in glass support with an approx. weight of 200g ('glass' support). We are very pleased of the burning quality because the recipe we use (palm and bees wax, oils, colorants), all natural so Eco, led us to a finel product of very high quality in aspect, color and texture.

Why palm wax candles?

Palm wax is a completely natural compound, a regenerative and renewable resource, obtained with help from palm plantations in SE Asia (Malaysia in our case). Being an environmental free product, this type of wax is one of the most hunted by the candle producers, especially because the final result consists of an exceptional candle. This is the main goal why EcoDecoLight was created.

As a plant, palm tree produces fruits that when the time comes are harvested and sent to the processing centers. Here, the oil is extracted, sterilized and purified in order to obtain a raw palm oil. This substance is then again processed by refineries in order to get products like cooking oil, shortening oil, substitute for cocoa oil, soaps and other non-food products and, of course, palm wax.

Palm wax is an extraordinary product when it's about making high quality candles. These are very resistant at high summer temperatures, mix easily with colors and keep inside very well the aroma of essential oils. A confirmed advantage consists of this: with a carefully controlled pouring temperature, there can be obtained spectacular surface textures, from complex crystalline structures to fine solid colors.

Some of the advantages that a natural palm wax candle, not a paraffin one, can offer, are:

1. It's a 100% natural product, ecologic, with no petrochemical compounds.
2. Palm wax is a renewable resource.
3. Palm wax mixes very good with essential oils and keeps the fragrance for a long time; this is why they can be very well used in aromatherapy, using one or a combination of more calculated aromas.
   
4. The candle does not leak and burns without smoke.
5. Candles burn very well and the time of burning is long.
6. Candles keep their shape and they stay hard, without deformations, even on a hot summer day.
7. The candle is not oily and has a very fine texture.

EcoDecoLighte was born not just like a name suggesting ecologic and/or decorative light. Meaning candles. But from two obsessions: one - the desire to lighten a completely natural candle, two - the need to organize ourselves and to manage own business.

Let's talk about the meaning of "natural candle", Eco candle. It's about using a 100% natural recipe that by burning does not emanate harmful compounds and a pure cotton wick, without any insertion (artificial or metallic).

The market consists of almost 100% 'some-synthetic-compound' candles. All are made from paraffin and synthetic flavors, artificial colors, wicks with metallic insertion... We want a natural product and now we are in production of 100% natural candles, with a recipe based on palm wax, beeswax, palm oil, natural colors and essential oils. Also, as we said before, the wick is also pure cotton.

Ecologic candles made by EcoDecoLight burn clear, without smoke, without leaving toxic compound in the breathable air, they offer ambient light for many hours and can be used in aromatherapy, because the essential oils we use.
